Introducing Sumatra Kerinci Kersik Natural LTD

Ringing in the new year just got a bit tastier. We have been able to score a surprising little gem out of western Sumatra for our next Sumatra Limited Edition coffee. Since it's toward the end of the season for Sumatra, we didn't have much confidence that we would be able to find a suitable replacement. Boy were we wrong! ACR happily brings you: Sumatra Kerinci Kersik Natural LTD.
Coffee cherries
This newest Sumatra offering comes from the Kerinci district, near Mount Kerinci, only the highest volcano in Indonesia, along the western side of the island. Mount Kerinci is surrounded by the Kerinci Seblat National Park, where endangered species like the Sumatran tiger and rhino are protected. Dotted around Mount Kerinci, small family-owned plots make up a co-op of 476 smallholder members. Their carefully managed plots are protective buffers for the national park.
Coffee beans in various stages of drying process
Sumatra has very high ambient humidity. This makes drying the beans a particularly long process, as they need to be very closely monitored and rotated to prevent mold. It's because of this that most coffees from Sumatra are washed processed. But this one.... oh, this one is a natural process! This means the coffee cherry was left to dry on the bean, imparting natural fruit tones to the coffee.
This coffee is extraordinary! If you think you've got Sumatran coffees pegged, think again. This one has the naturally low acidity and velvety finish like other Sumatras, but that's about where similarities end. It's not earthy, but lighter and brighter than you'd expect.
