We source these beans directly from the Jayabharathi family's Balekola Estate. At 4500 feet above sea level, overlooking the highest peak (Mullayanagiri) in the mountains of Chikmagalur, is a shade canopy where they grow black pepper, cardamom, and fruit trees like oranges, mango, and bananas alongside of their delicate, exotic coffee.
Befitting a premium estate, bean preparation is done to a very high level. The result is a brew that is medium-bodied and clean, with intriguing hints of spice, perhaps from being grown with the pepper and cardamom. We roast to this coffee to full city medium.
